As part of its observation of World Press Freedom Day, the Center for International Media Assistance is pleased to release Championing Press Freedom: African Journalists Push Back Against Repression, by veteran media consultant and Africa expert Mary Myers.

When many people think of Africa, they conjure an often atrocious record on press freedom, as measured by press watchdog groups Freedom House and Reporters Without Borders. But even in some African countries with the worst press freedom records, brave journalists continue to write, blog, and broadcast every day. This briefing paper profiles several of these journalists.
