Media’s Role in Strengthening Accountability

The Report of the High-Level Panel of Eminent Persons on the Post-2015 Development Agenda highlights freedom of speech, association, peaceful protest, and access to independent media and information. It is uncertain whether or not this topic will make it into the final version of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Join CIMA for an interactive online discussion on May 21 at 9:00 a.m.

In recent months, CIMA has written extensively on raising the profile of the media sector . CIMA senior director Mark Nelson attended a high level meeting in Mexico regarding this topic, and we are continuing to seek out ways to inform our constituency about this issue.  Our latest effort  in this mission is in partnership with LenCD’s CD4Results webinar series.

About LenCD

CIMA’s webinar will be on May 21 from 9:00-10:15 and will feature commentary by a panel of experts heavily involved in the effort to strengthen media’s role in accountability. This discussion will serve as a briefing on the activities happening to this point regarding the Sustainable Development Goals, and what we can do looking ahead to ensure that media is included in this. A major focus of the conversation will be how to better engage the global south regarding this agenda.

The discussion will be moderated by Mark Nelson and feature commentary by Article 19’s Quinn McKew and UNESCO’s Fackson Banda. The discussion will be held live on NED’s YouTube channel.
