Information Denied: Cuban Media and the Defense of Press Freedom

We were all thrilled to welcome Normando Hernandez, a former Reagan Fascell fellow, back to the NED to view his new documentary, Freedom Denied: Cuba’s Black Spring.

 Luis Botello served as a commentator to the video, and discussed how the absence of tradition of independent media paired with the effective diplomatic work of Castro has created an environment of complacency throughout Latin America toward Cuba.

While Cuba has a long road to freedom, organizations like Normando’s efforts are essential in contributing to the free flow of information and creating an environment where the government has to address issues critical to everyday citizens.
